Rampant attempt to incite Islamophobia
Check out this everyday example of systemic racism and Islamophobia by English newspaper, The Telegraph, yesterday.
Please let us name it and call it what it is.
This is a repeating pattern in which the next Black, Brown or Muslim person is subjected to violent media attacks for being appointed into a national senior role, being found to be better qualified, experienced and more successful than a white person to undertake it and, in this case, (and this is where the fear really hits) for being Muslim whilst doing it.
This is how systemic racism and Islamophobia functions – the next person and the next person and then the next person have to prove they are worthy of scrutiny. There is no access. White people appear to understand systemic racism on a strictly case by case basis and we, white folks, instead respond by commenting on the victim’s qualifications and worthiness for the job.
Systemic racism appears completely invisible and again we are reduced to discussing the skillset of the latest individual to prove, “yes, they did deserve that job after all!” The Telegraph‘s attempt to incite Islamophobia escapes attention as white people gather to validate the latest person to receive these racist body blows.
Personally, I really have lost count of the utterly useless failing-forwards white men and women in national senior posts, practising Christians, catholics and atheists, that escape any comment whatsoever and sustain roles for decades without question.
White people appear easily mystified and misdirected into Islamophobia by the incantations of the far right media, such as The Telegraph, masquerading as the centre right ground.
For example, below, how many times does ‘religious school leader’ have to be repeated – three times it seems (in the headline, the subheading and description of the image (not included) for the Telegraph’s writers, Neil Johnson and Dominic Penna, to force home their attempt to incite Islamophobia.
I shan’t dignify this example of systemic racism by listing the many, many accolades of the latest target (being a CEO and Sir, not enough for The Telegraph) but let’s instead amplify the repeating pattern of the everyday racist far-right white press in England that means Black and brown people get spiritually and violently attacked, undermined and trolled for a) being appointed to a senior role b) having a faith and c) being Black or Brown.
