‘Race’ in Schools for Early Career Teachers

The Missing Teacher Standard: to develop racial literacy and to learn how to practise anti-racist approaches in educational settings.

This session is aimed at Early Careers Teachers in their first five years of teaching. This is a facilitated workshop to deepen and widen knowledge of:

  • race construction in schools;
  • legal duties of The Equality Act and The Public Sector Equality (2010);
  • research about how best to develop racial literacy.

Case studies/stories will be used to reflect on racism in schools and teachers’ agency, duties and ideas to challenge it through anti-racist practice.
